Pamidronate Disodium treatment to relieve her pain due to the Bone Metastasis from Lung Cancer

After 9 days of linear accelerator treatment, she still felt very painful. The day before yesterday (25/11/08), the doctors decided to combine this treatment with an infusion of Pamidronate Disodium. It is said that this medicine is effective to relieve the pain from bone metastasis. We were told that this might cause some side effects like vomiting, slight fever, etc. After one day's treatment, she was OK. However, starting yesterday, she severely vomited many times and her temperature went up to 38C. Doctors immediately gave her an injection of medicine to stop her vomiting, but it was not very effective. Then they decided to give her an infusion to stop the vomiting and also to help calm her down. Today, she said she felt much better. Her pain has been reduced and we are now much less worried. Thanks to Dr Mu and Dr He. They are the best doctors in the world.

Shocking News

Last Saturday morning, when I called my mama, she said she was suffering from a sudden spasm of back pain. It happened so suddenly. One minute she was fine and the next she was not. As she was washing her hands, in just a moment, she started feeling intensive pain. Since it occurred at the same place as she was hurt last time, she thought it was an old condition that had returned. Besides, it was only painful for her when she moved. So we were thinking we would wait a few days to observe her condition. But her condition did not improve. On Monday, she called two of her primary physicians each from a different hospital. Both of them suggested she take a bone scanning (ECT). She was admitted to the hospital yesterday (12/11/08) and today the procedure was performed. The result was shocking. We thought she just finished her full cycle of chemotherapy treatments. Her last CT was done just this August. So it won't be so fast. Who knows? The strange thing was that about the same period, she found her throat was suddenly becoming better. My father now says that probably it was just like dams. The water keeps pressing on all the dams until it finds the weakest one. The rest then feel relieved. We were all feeling desperate after we heard this news; especially my mom. She lost her confidence until her principal physician Dr. Mu calmed her down. She told my mom, as a doctor and a soldier, she guaranteed my mom it won’t be painful after the treatments. So immediately she discussed with another doctor to finalize a plan for her treatment that would utilize a linear accelerator. Today (13/11/08) she just finished her first treatment. We are not able to see the result yet, but my mom is able to regain some of her confidence now. Meanwhile Dr He also helped a lot. Recently there are many patients, hence no enough wards. Dr He managed to get a place for my mom immediately after we called him and he goes to see my mom every now and then to comfort her. Thank you so much, Dr Mu and Dr He. We will forever remember you.

7th Chemotheraty was done on 13/09/08

Mama's 7th chemotherapy was done on 13/09/08. Before that, we were always worried about her white blood cell count and blood count. It had been always below normal. Somebody told us that turtle soup would help to boost up her white blood cell count. She had had some turtle soup for the time. After it, the white blood cell count increased from 3700 to 4600 and again to 5000 after the second time she tried the turtle soup. Now she's recovering.

I visited her on 30/08/08 and only came back last Sunday (07/09/08). She was very happy to see me and showed me arround one of the best places in the city. She also saw me off at the local airport before I left for Singapore.

6th chemotherapy was done on 14/08/08

My mother has completed her 6th chemotherapy treatment on 14/08/08. This time was not as smooth as previous treatments. She has been hospitalized since 11/08/08. She felt not so comfortable at that time - especially in her stomach and throat. Consequently, she approached her doctor and asked him whether it could be because of her tumor spreading out. Doctor denied the possibility of cancer spreading to her stomach; however, he said there was a possibility of cancer spreading to her throat. She then asked whether they could operate on it during its early stage. The doctor shook his head and said she's too weak to have any form of operation. Then she inquired into the possibility of having radiation treatment again. But the doctor shattered this hope by saying it was not possible to have radiation treatment too often. So she was desperate and asked how she could know how much time she would have left? The doctor kept silent. It was a huge blow to her. She could not take it and for the whole day she could neither eat nor sleep. Her chemo was scheduled on 13/08/08, was postponed to 14/08/08. Another reason for this postponing was her white blood cell level (3200) was still below the required level. After the chemo, she felt miserable for quite number of days until now. Today she said she felt much better and regained her confidence after this round of CT scanning requested by her earlier on. The result says there's no sign of spreading to her stomach and throat. Guess doctors must be very careful about what they say, because it might affect the mood of patients severely.
Thank God she made it this time as well.

Third one also finished now

Mama has done her third chemotherapy on 25/05/08. So far everything has gone smooth. Until now she had not showed substantial side effects. We all feel very happy for her. On the other hand, we fell a bit worried as well. Does it mean it's not that effective? Kindly share with me your experiences.
Mama felt nauseate yesterday (28/05/08). The person, who stayed next to her ward, passed away the night before. She was affected and couldn't sleep well since. Yesterday afternoon, she returned home and managed to sleep well. She has now recovered a bit today. 妈妈,你要快快好起来哟!加油!加油!
